Emergency Dental Care in Bentleigh East

In the case of a dental accident or emergency we can help you.

Car accidents, sporting injuries and home incidents often require immediate dental treatment. Emergency Dental Treatment can save your teeth as well as restore comfort. This is what we offer at DesignDentistry.

Lost a Tooth?

The most common form of dental emergency is the loss of a tooth. If you have lost a tooth, it is imperative to see a dentist as soon as possible. By attaining medical treatment within 30 minutes, there is an 85% chance the tooth will survive.

Saving a Tooth

After you have lost your tooth, the first thing you must do is find the tooth. Once you have found your tooth, handle it very delicately – do not touch the fragile root (which needs to be intact in order to encourage your tooth to re-attach).

You must also resist the temptation to clean your tooth off with water. If the tooth is clean, place it gently back into its socket immediately and apply slight pressure. If the tooth is dirty, rinse it using milk and place it back into its socket. Otherwise keep the tooth moist by placing it in a glass of milk or tuck it into your cheek.

The sooner you visit the dentist, the greater the chance of saving the tooth.

Preventing Dental Emergencies

Prevention is always better than a cure. We recommend wearing a mouth guard during all contact sports and if you are in need of emergency dental care, please visit a dentist as soon as possible.

Other reasons you might want to book an emergency appointment are:

  • A badly chipped tooth that is bleeding (not the gums)
  • A loose tooth that has been pushed in or is hanging out of its correct position
  • Pain and swelling in the gums, around the wisdom teeth, around the eye, in the roof of the mouth or in the jaw
  • Intense toothaches
